  • Plant id?
Can anyone tell me what this guy may be? I got him at a yard sale a few months ago and brought him home, repotted, and he has doubled in growth! I'm just not sure what he is. Any ideas?

Paris Lalicata Hi Kathleen! This looks like a Dieffenbachia to me- best to allow the soil to dry out between waterings and give plenty of bright indirect light!
  • Brown spots?
I rescued this plant and he was in a small pot with no drainage hole. When I moved him to a new bigger pot there were a ton of roots i had to break to get him out of the old pot. But he still had a lot healthy roots. Now that he is in the new pot, he's still getting these brown/ yellow spots. I cut off one of the bigger leaves that was nothing but a brown spot. Hes still getting new growth though. Ive tried watering more, watering less, more light, less light, and i dont see any pests on him. Please help me figure out how to make him happy.

Kathleen Whittaker Thank you so much! I will order one off Amazon and try it. When you say remove leaves, do you mean any that are showing brown spots? I will keep him in the brighter spot now too. Thank you so much. I'm very worried about him!

Paris Lalicata Hi Kathleen! It looks like your plant might be battling a fungal/bacterial infection if the spots continue to enlarge and spread across the plant. Therefor, the best thing to do would be to remove any infected leaves and treat the plant with a fungicide and follow the labels provided for the product. It's important to follow the treatment religiously as bacterial infections are hard for plants to fight off, and increasing the light for the plant will also give it the energy it needs to fight back!
