Plant Knowledge Level
We’ve had this cactus for over a year now. He recently formed these brown spots at his base. He is in our living room with no sun light and he gets water once a month.
Hi Megan! The spotting could be an indication that the plant is receiving plenty of moisture, but not enough light. I would recommend increasing the plants exposure to light by moving it by a window or investing in a grow light, and ensure you only water once the soil has dried out completely. On the other hand, if you don't believe moisture stress to be the issue then a fungal infection could've developed. I would recommend keeping the plant in good conditions and increase the light to give it the energy it needs to fight the infection and water accordingly. You may also want to use any general plant fungicide and follow the label provided for what I think is a 10 day period. Once the right balance of care is maintained and treated the plant should bounce back
